Separations
The costs for the separation and purification of industrially produced substances often account for much more than half (50-80%) of the total production costs.
For temperature-sensitive molecules (e.g., proteins or pharmaceutical substances), as well as separations from complex biotechnological reaction media, liquid phases are used, such as extraction.
In CALEDO, liquid phases for separation processes will be developed based on an understanding of the interactions between the molecules.
This will lead to novel and sustainable processes that significantly increase product purity and yield and substantially reduce the costs of purification and the size of waste streams.
