Optimal liquid phases for biological and chemical reactions will lead to improved yields as well as more resource-conserving and environmentally friendly processes. Moreover, they will enable reactions that were not possible or only to an insufficient extent before. Separation processes will be made more energy-efficient through optimal liquid phases (e.g., replacing rectification with extraction or membrane processes) and will lead to higher product purities. Optimal liquid phases for formulations (e.g., infusions, vaccines, or tablets) will increase the bioavailability and shelf life of the active ingredients contained within them, thus improving their use for therapeutic purposes or even making it possible in the first place.
